Tuesday’s Causes – Special Over Sized Edition

Once Again it’s time for Tuesday’s Cause –

There are still 2 VERY worthy causes here in our own online community that could still use your help they are the Legal Defense Fund to Help SVAllie with her legal costs from her custody battle to keep the EP (Her daughter the Elf Princess) with her and the Trust for Sonic Boom (SB is Tee Morris’s daughter and recently tragedy struck taking Tee’s Wife Natalie.)

Help out if you can if not with a few $$$ with some encouragement, prayer, or time.

But there are a lot of causes out there that we don’t see, children that need a transplant families effected by disaster, and nations effected by even larger disasters.   Take a moment today and pray or send positive thoughts / energy (whatever your “thing” is) and if you got a spare dime chip it in to help a cause, or better yet donate some time to help a cause along or even a shoulder or an ear to someone that is effected by a tragedy.

Double stuffed post here today as well.  Today I’d like to talk about Make A Wish Foundation, and Ronald McDonald House.

Sunday was the two year anniversary of my niece Sharon Marie Reed passing.  This time of year leaves the Asplund family a little fucked up.  This post is in memory of Share Bear Reed.

I’m a little teary because of thinking about the post that went up just before this one so this is gonna be a quick in out.

The Make a Wish Foundation is a very worthy cause helping terminal children’s wishes and dreams come true.  What more worthy cause can there be than to give hope, strength and joy to children with life-threatening medical conditions..  You don’t just have to throw money at the problem you can donate time and talent as well.

Make A Wish Foundation Website – http://www.wish.org/

The Ronald McDonald House is a charity that helps families stay close to their children when they are hospitalized away from home.  It provided Sheila with a place to stay just blocks from Children’s memorial in case something happened she could remain close.  Their website can say it a lot better than I can.

Ronald McDonald House Website – http://rmhc.org/

Screw it I’ll toss two more things out there – In Chicago it’s Children’s Memorial, in Indianapolis it’s Riley’s, and there is St. Jude’s for children with cancer, and there are many others out there that I don’t know of, but I know every so often local business will always sell boots eggs balloons, pumpkins, etc depending on the time of year to help out local children’s hospitals.  Find one close by do what you can for them.

Lastly this seems like a morbid thing to bring up, and as a parent I’m creeped the hell out by it but it’s still something that needs to be thought about.  Organ donation, not only by you but heaven please forbid our children.  Sharon was on a transplant list before she passed sadly her body was past the point of no return when a heart that matched became available.  Your gift could prevent someone else from going through the pain of losing a loved one.  I’m not saying you must donate your, or your kids organs because that decision is not the right one for everyone but think about it.  I mean if I expect someone to donate to save my life or my child’s, what right do I have to say no if the tables were reversed?

Hit me up at rasplundjr@gmail.com with the Subject Tuesday Cause if you have a cause you want / need me to pimp.  There are plenty of people out there that need a hand, not just a hand out.  See who you can help today.

In Memory of the Bear.

Before I post today’s worthy causes I wanted to take a moment and share   a little something.  3-28-2008 My niece Sharon Marie Reed passed on she was 12.  She was disconnected from life support after months of battling for her life against her own body.  Today’s Worthy Causes will be dedicated in her honor.  I love you Share Bear, and I miss you like mad.

The following are from a couple of posts that I put on her care pages shortly after her passing.  The first is a poem by Rudyard Kipling and the second was something I dashed off in remembrance of Sharon, that my sister ended up having me read at Sharon’s service.

Just something I’d like to share…..

[IF]

If you can keep your head when all about you

Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,

If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you

But make allowance for their doubting too,

If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,

Or being lied about, don’t deal in lies,

Or being hated, don’t give way to hating,

And yet don’t look too good, nor talk too wise:

If you can dream–and not make dreams your master,

If you can think–and not make thoughts your aim;

If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster

And treat those two impostors just the same;

If you can bear to hear the truth you’ve spoken

Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,

Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,

And stoop and build ’em up with worn-out tools:

If you can make one heap of all your winnings

And risk it all on one turn of pitch-and-toss,

And lose, and start again at your beginnings

And never breath a word about your loss;

If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew

To serve your turn long after they are gone,

And so hold on when there is nothing in you

Except the Will which says to them: “Hold on!”

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,

Or walk with kings–nor lose the common touch,

If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you;

If all men count with you, but none too much,

If you can fill the unforgiving minute

With sixty seconds’ worth of distance run,

Yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it,

And–which is more–you’ll be a Man, my son!

–Rudyard Kipling

Grieve not For Sharon
Grieve not for Sharon’s loss because she lost nothing, she gained life eternal with our lord Jesus Christ and the almighty God our heavenly father. She is home with her father now. Remember her full of life, she never wasted a second of it. Remember that devilish grin, that spark of trouble in her eye. God has called Sharon home, and she has heeded his call so do not grieve for her, she is without pain, and she waits for us to join her at the table of our father God.

Grieve for yourselves, and for us, we have lost a truly remarkable friend, and loved one. Grieve for us, we lost a fantastic example of how to love God even in the darkest moments of our life, how to keep pressing forward when all looks lost. Grieve for all the lessons that we took for granted while we had her here with us, Grieve for the lessons that will not come in the future.

She was full of live never wasting a second of it.

She was full of love.

She was also full of pee and vinegar.

Remember her and the lessons that we should have learned sooner through this little miracle.
1) Never falter in your love of God and Jesus
2) Never falter in your love of family and friends
3) Never falter in your love of mankind
4) Live each moment enjoy each second of your life don’t watch it go by go run after it tackle it, then tickle the hell out of it.

I’m gonna miss you being around kiddo, I love you very much, but your home with your daddy now and God.

I’m sorry that you only briefly got to see Sera, but at least she got to meet one of the strongest people I ever knew, and loved.

You’ll never leave us as long as we carry you in our hearts and minds you were one of the greatest miracles in this family, and reminder to fight, and to love with all your heart all the time. Thank you baby doll for everything you gave us.

Fly home to the your Daddy, and to God on the wings of angels.
till we next meet I love you and I’m gonna miss you, but I will see you again.

Father in heaven, thank you for the time that we had with Sharon, thank you for the love and light she brought in our lives, please help us have the strength to get through this ordeal, and remind us not of her at the time of her passing but her in her life. She was full of life, in her short life she never wasted any of it she loved and enjoyed her life nearly always grinning that evil little smile.
We don’t know why you took her from us, we may not understand that lesson or reason for some time we beg of you lord the strength to endure until we can understand, we beg that you grant us the ability to not harden our hearts in this dark hour. Sharon has come home and she is with you and Tim now, that I thank you. Amen

Double sized 8 Qs with @MickBordet, and @KMLaw

It’s Monday and you know what that means right?  Yes I get off my lazy ass and post up 8 Questions – This week since I’ve been busy dealing with other things life has thrown my way I will bring you a double sized 8 Qs and an apology for letting life get in the way, but the only cure for that means you don’t get any more content from me either… hey put that pistol down… stop I mean it.. MOMMY!!!!

Without any further Ado here we have the Frightening minds behind Every Photo Tells their collaborative effort as well as their individual efforts of Some Other Scotland and Luscious Leftovers Mick Bordet and Katharina from Vienna

1 ) What prompted Some Other Scotland?

When I finished writing my first novel I had learnt so much that I wanted to get straight into writing the next one, but didn’t really have anything planned. This coincided with my first encounter with podiobooks.com and it seemed natural to create a podcast novel that would get my writing online and heard by an audience. I figured that if I was going to benefit from using the internet in this way, I might as well make use of its interactive nature to help form the story, hence asking people to choose a topic from recent news stories. Setting it in Scotland was just a way of keeping the locations and characters familiar to me and avoiding having to read too many news feeds.

2 ) A Lot of what Americans know about Scotland comes from movies and BBC programs that make it over here – Do Scottish folks actually eat Haggis? And what exactly is it? And if it’s what I think it is Why?

Let’s put it this way: the average Scottish supermarket probably dedicates about 0.05% of its chilled meat cabinets to Haggis, until the week before Burns’ Night when it leaps up to about 2%. I guess it is comparable the peak of popularity of turkey around Thanksgiving. Haggis is a spicy mix of minced sheep offal, onion and oatmeal, traditionally cooked in a sheep’s stomach and served with neeps and tatties (i.e. turnip and potato) – the description does put a few people off, but it’s not that far removed from a sausage and is, quite frankly, damned tasty.

3 ) What was the scariest moment in your life?

Going for a walk along a river where the sides of the valley became steeper until I ended up stuck on a near-vertical cliff face with a long drop below me, about 6 inches of ledge under my feet and no way to get back the way I had come because of the angle I had approached it from. Not expecting to find myself in that position, I had no climbing gear or anything that would help me get out and this was in the days before mobile phones. I knew that if I made one wrong move I’d be dead or severely injured; it was one of those ‘life flashing before your eyes’ moments. In the end I pulled myself up using exposed tree roots, hoping that they would hold my weight. Apparently they did.

4 ) What prompted the idea behind your joint effort with Katharina – Every Photo Tells?

We started writing a story a while ago where we took it in turns to write blocks of 500 words each, which I began based on inspiration from a photograph I took years ago. Katharina came across a blog with stories based on pictures and suggested we could expand on the idea as a joint venture.

5 ) How did you get into Podcasting?

I started with listening to the Spellbound theremin podcast (http://spellbound.purplenote.com) and was keen to try something similar myself, but didn’t just want to focus on music. When I came across the concept of serialised audiobooks, the idea just fit perfectly with what I was doing at the time.

6 ) When did you start writing and Why? Do you remember that “1st” story?

I started writing for my own enjoyment when I was about 13 – I wrote a series of short stories about a man with no bones in his body and his friends… a guy with a 6 foot long leg, a plastic bag and half a tin of spilt baked beans (called Marantaz for some reason). I wish I still had them – they were pretty ridiculous, but a lot of fun.

7 ) Are there any stereotypes about Scots that aren’t true really gets your goat?

I’ve never really been concerned about stereotypes; it’s just human nature to try to label and categorise things. Anyone with a modicum of common sense knows that not every Scot wears a kilt, has a sporran full of haggis and does the Highland Fling all day long. I mean, I know at least two people who don’t 😉

I do enjoy taking a stereotype and playing with it to come up with something new, though.

8 ) What’s the Day Gig – and Does it Influence your writing, and if so how?

I do commercial crime pattern analysis, which is pretty interesting, but hasn’t influenced my writing (yet). It does take me around the country fairly regularly, which I think has an impact on some of my writing. I had a few years of travelling almost every week between London and Edinburgh, which became a major plot point of my first book, because it messes with your head after a while.

**Okay since some of the questions have more than one part technically this is more than 8 questions but meh…..

Bonus Questions – You don’t have to answer these but you can if you want.

b1) What is the air speed velocity of an unladen swallow?

0 mph (at least it was at the point of impact with my living room window. Stupid bird.)

b2) 42 is the answer but what is the question?

How many songs have you written that now make you cringe?

b3) If at first you don’t succeed _____________ (fill in the Blank)

… try being second.

thanks for getting the grey matter moving 🙂

And Because I promised a double sized week this week I also include 8 Questions from Katharina from the Luscious Leftovers Podcast and the Every Photo Tells Podcast.

1 ) I have to say that Luscious Leftovers is the first podcast I have encountered with it’s mix of sensuality and food.  What prompted the Idea for the Podcast?

Other than the obvious: I could live on sex and food! I think nowadays both are widely under-appreciated, under-enjoyed and under-done. Whatever I can do to change that.

2 ) What was the worst trouble you got into as a child?

Pre-Skype times… extremely high phone bills and a weird thing for long distance relationships.

Oh, as a KID you said? Uhm… Pretty much the same. Only weird pen pals back then. I should’ve stayed away from the internet. Or maybe I am just AS weird…. Hmmm…. Need to think further about that.

3 ) When did you start writing and Why?  Do you remember that “1st” story?

I got that story told so many times, I don’t even know anymore if I remember it or if it was just my parents telling it so often….

It was my grandfather’s 60th birthday, I was about 4 years old. One night I woke up my dad, telling him I wanted to write my grandpa a story for his birthday. So my dad had to get out the old typewriter and I dictated him the story. It was about a hedgehog and another animal. Too bad I wasn’t able to find the story in my grandpa’s papers after he died…

4 ) Okay replace that Q with Who have you not been able to have on the show yet that you’re really wanting to be a guest?

Before I got him on the show I would’ve said Tee Morris. Now, to be completely honest, the ONE person that I really want on my podcast is my husband.

5 ) How did you get into Podcasting?

I listened only to MuggleCast and PotterCast for a long time. When I got into Lost, I started to look up podcasts according to the things I was interested in. Ended up on the forums of a big Lost podcast. That’s where I met a lot of people who wanted to try it out. So, about 2 years ago, I started my first podcast.

6 ) Okay I have to ask… Mozarts Balls?  Leave it to Austrian Scientists to clone a mans Genitals stuff them with Marzipan and Dip them in Chocolate…Why?

You know how there’s the tongue of this saint on display in a church in Italy?

No that’s not the reason – the German word “Kugeln” (Mozart Kugeln) does not mean the balls as in genitals in German. It just get’s lost in translation somehow. In German, “balls” are “eggs”. Don’t ask me why, though. ☺

7 ) You were hoping the episode you did with Pip would be too hot for Itunes?  Did you succeed and if not are you guys gonna make another run to get dropped?

No, I haven’t been banned from iTunes yet, and I am utterly disappointed to be quite honest. Yes, the goal was either to get banned from iTunes, invent the PORN tag or melt the whole internet in its entirety.

I will definitely try again – maybe I need to chance to some boy-on-girl-action this time… We’ll see. I haven’t given up yet!

8 ) And I might be losing you with the pop reference form here in America but just what would you do for a Klondike bar?  (Figured I’d throw one in for Mick’s sake)

I can imagine what the pop reference aims at. All I can tell you is what I would NOT do for it.

1) Give up the kilt

2) Give up Apple

3) Give up meat

Other than that…….. Uhm…….. ☺ Make me an offer!

Okay since some of the questions have more than one part technically this is more than 8 questions but meh…..

**Bonus Questions – You don’t have to answer these but you can if you want.

b1) What is the air speed velocity of an unladen swallow?

13.5 kilometres/hour

b2) 42 is the answer but what is the question?

What is the highest number in LOST?

b3) If at first you don’t succeed _____________ (fill in the Blank)

I am trying my hardest not to say “make someone else do it instead” 😀

Alzheimer’s.  It’s ugly.  I can’t imagine what it would be like to have it but I know what it’s like to watch one of the brightest wonderful women I ever knew spiral down into it’s depths.  I was in my mid twenties, I worked midnights at a factory at that time and my gramma was over spending the weekend.  I was watching TV at 12:30 AM because I couldn’t sleep and I had to work the next night so I had to keep my body in schedule.  Gramma came tearing out of the back bedroom no clue where the hell she was trying to figure out where she was, and saying she had to get home to Ezra.  Ezra Brady, my maternal grandfather passed away more than a decade before I was born.  I had to explain to her that Ezra died a long time ago.  Now this still fucks me up to this day.  Because I explained to her that the only Grandfather I knew was Harold Elliot.  She then stated she meant that she had to get home to Harold.  Not only did I have to tell her that her first husband was dead but that her second husband had been dead for about decade at that point as well.  I had to explain to her who her youngest daughter was (my mother) and that I was her grandson.  I didn’t even have the disease and it hurt me hardcore.  I never want to be the one to explain that a loved one passed on ever again.  (And to those in the military / police /fire departments/ medicine that get stuck with the job my heart goes out to you I don’t know how you can do it and not crawl inside a bottle and just stay there).  This is something that I fight with everyday, because my paternal gramma started sliding down the same slope as well, though we were too far away to witness it first hand it’s still painful to know that two of the people you love most in this life had their feet cut out from under them living a half life because of this illness.  One day I will very possibly be sliding down that same slope.  The only comfort I have is it seems that when my gramma had her episodes she was usually in a good place in her past.  Small consolation but I’m glad that it was that rather than darker more painful memories.  I’ve seen what Alzheimer’s can do to a family.  I’ve seen what it can do to the body.  It’s a horrible disease and one that I feel needs attention brought to it as many people prefer to just sweep it under the rug.  There’s more than just the disease here that we can concentrate on.  We need to make sure that our loved ones that are afflicted with this evil curse, are cared for and cared ABOUT.  Too many members of my extended family treated my gramma poorly after she was in it’s clutches.  A Touch, a simple I love you, just being there while they’re terrified to give them love and an attempt at understanding this can give them so much more than gold and jewels and money thrown at the problem.  Giving them dignity instead of derision.  Letting them have their humanity instead of feeling like a caged animal.  These are just as important as finding a way to stop, this illness and cure it’s victims.

Big Time – or the review of Levithan Chronicles…

Lets get the links out of the way

The Leviathan Chronicles Site- http://www.leviathanchronicles.com/

Twitter account for @claputka

Twitter account for @LeviathanChrons

I’ve been listening to promos for the Levithan Chronicles from Christoff Laputka and have been putting off listening for a while but I corrected that.  Season 1 finished up earlier this year and I ‘m glad I waited to listen so I can listen straight through.

I do have a little criticism for the podcast.  Things are a little too convenient at times.  Injuries that are debilitating are ignored a few paragraphs later.  Takes me out of the story just a little, granted not enough to make me drop the podcast but noticeable.  One character had suffered from muscle atrophy, and it was hard for him to move and within minutes he’s right as rain leaping over a console getting into a fight.

Over all it’s a hell of a show.  Great production value, awesome cast, and a very exciting listen.

There’s a civil war being fought in the shadows among a subset of man that has hidden for a thousand years, and a shadowy US intelligence agency can’t help throwing it’s black hat into the ring and fighting against both sides.  A young scientist is drug into the battle and kickassedness ensues.  Christoff wanted to update the old audio drama format to bring it into the now.

It’s a blast.  The characters are fun and for an audio only show very real.  My favorite character really isn’t even one of the mains –  Oberland Saintclair the Irish engineer for a treasure seeking vessel the Hail Mary – Snarky little Irish guy gets drug into a world espionage and he ends up being a lot more capable than people give him credit.

It’s a great listen there are 24 story episodes in season one and a few “Sopabox” episodes where the author and his director give you a little behind the scenes view of what’s going on.

It’s a great ride, good script, it’s got adventure excitement, so it’s a damned good thing that I’m not a Jedi because I do crave these things and Leviathan Chronicles delivers for free world wide.

If you haven’t given season one a listen yet please do, if you have a very busy podcast listening schedule pencil it in as soon as you can it;s worth it… well at least I think so.

And Christoff if you read this promise me one thing bro… if you ever try to market this as a TV show don’t let it go to Fox, this is something I’d like to enjoy for more than half a season.

Tuesday’s Worthy Causes

Once Again it’s time for Tuesday’s Cause –

I’d still like to take a moment to remind everyone that right now there are 2 VERY worthy causes here in our own podcasting community they are the Legal Defense Fund to Help SVAllie with her legal costs from her custody battle to keep the EP (Her daughter the Elf Princess) with her and the Trust for Sonic Boom (SB is Tee Morris’s daughter and recently tragedy struck taking Tee’s Wife Natalie suddenly but you knew that already right?  If not how the heck do you know about me and not Tee?)

Today’s focus will be on kids.  Why you ask because I’m a parent, and long before I was a parent I was an uncle, and not so long before that I was a kid myself.  Those of you who don’t like kids can move along and pay no attention to this because you really wont’ give a damn anyway.  Those that do care, I’d like to remind you that (especially in this economy) there are many children in this nation that don’t have enough to eat.  Share our strength is an organization that battles the demon that is childhood hunger.  Too many kids are going hungry, some see the strain that this economy is putting on their parents and try to tough it out, others the family just cannot provide.  Check out a local food pantry school, or Share Our Strength at http://strength.org to see how you can help defeat childhood hunger.  Food is something that gives us comfort.  Watch a street animal when it finds food, we as humans are wired VERY similarly.

The other thing I’d like to talk about today is education.  Schools all over are having funding cuts.  My oldest daughter’s school has a piss poor special ed dept, that really doesn’t try to assist my kid just pushes her through the system.  No matter how many times my wife tries to contact them to see what we can do to help them help our daughter they refuse to contact us back.  Too many kids in this nation are not getting the education they deserve.  Find out how you can help schools in your area give the children an education they can thrive on.  This is another one where you gotta look around locally and see how you can get involved.  Be it purchasing from a fund raiser, becoming a school booster or giving of your time helping tutor, or volunteering to help at the school.  It’s for our kids, if they’re not worth the effort who the hell is?

8 Questions with Scott Roche aka the @SpiritualTramp

Well it’s Monday again so we all know what that means, It’s time to take the skinheads bowling for soup… or maybe that’s the cold medicine mixing old Dr. Demento songs and kickass bands… Anyways It’s time once again for another exercise in randomnesssssssssssssssssssssssssss 8 Questions, this week we feature the rascally roguish champion of faith the wily wacky witty warlord or the written word the Italian Stallion Rocky Balboa!!!!… huh what … hmmm apparently Rocky Balboa is a fictional character and a boxer so I guess We’ll feature Spiritual Tramp aka Scott Roche instead.

1 ) When did you start writing and Why?  Do you remember that “1st” story

The first story I recall writing was a rip off of the Mack Bolan books I read as a kid.  I’m sure there were stories before that one.  I role played for years and was a voracious reader, so writing just seemed like a natural extension of those things.  I didn’t start writing seriously until I was an adult though.  It spawned from a time in my life where I just didn’t have any creative outlets and so I wrote to keep “sane”.  I wish I hadn’t waited as long as I did.  But it’s never too late to start.

2 ) What inspired Archangel?

As I said I used to role play and I created a character for a horror game that a friend was running.  He was a twelve year old kid who saw his parents get killed by some monsters.  When I decided to do NaNoWriMo a few years ago the character came to mind.  I decided I wanted to see what he was like all grown up.  That character became Matthew York, the protagonist for Archangel.  I wanted a guy who reflected my faith, but who wasn’t a cardboard cutout Christian.  Matt has a lot of inner demons and it’s fun to work those out and torture him a little.

3 ) How did you get into Podcasting?

I got an iPod from my mother in law a few years ago and discovered all of this cool free content out there.  I listened to all the “usual suspects” for quite some time.  After a while the creator in me decided to try and make one on my own.  My first few forays were… clumsy, but it was just so much fun that I kept working at it and working at it.  I still am.

4 ) You went from a straight read to a full cast – Do you regret that decision or fell you made the best choice for the story going for quality vs efficiency?

I never regret learning something new.  For me it wasn’t about quality or efficiency, it was about trying something I’d never done before.  Now that I’ve done some of both I’m not sure what my next project will look like.  There are certainly advantages and drawbacks to the different methods.  I will say that I have no desire to do something quite as complicated as a Morevi or Metamor City.  Those guys really pull out all the stops.  On the other hand, I do so love working with the voice talent I’ve gotten to know over the last year.  The biggest thing I’ve learned from this whole process is that I really need to have a lot more work done up front before I start releasing ‘casts.  I didn’t have all my ducks in a row and as a result the release schedule for Archangel: Legion has suffered a bit.

5 ) Any plans for more Podcasting under the Kilt episodes?

I do.  There’s a lot of wisdom and experience out there and I think the more ways we distribute that, the more we benefit as a community.  My first episode was ambitious in terms of the amount of production involved.  I’ve spent some time thinking through that and I need to find a way to streamline the process.

6 ) Do you ever find yourself getting in the way of your own faith?

Heh.  Quite often, yes.  My wife tells me that I think too much.  By that I think she means that I brood over things and over complicate them.  We’re to come to God with faith as a child.  That doesn’t mean don’t ask questions.  As a dad I’m sure you know kids are full of questions.  I think that means we need to realize that we don’t know is all and we never will.  It means we can rest in that knowledge, knowing that a being much larger and wiser than us has things under control and we can just enjoy creation and play, question, and love to the best of our ability.  Resting in that can be a challenge.

7 ) What’s the next project After Archangel?

Well I’m about halfway through three larger pieces of fiction.  They’re all very interesting to me and they all need quite a bit of work before they’re ready for prime time.  I think the next thing I want to do until one of them is ready is to work put out more Podcasting: Under the Kilt, reboot the podcast my wife and I did back in 2008, and maybe put out some short stories every other week like Zach Ricks is doing with Mad Poet Files. Think that’s enough?

8 ) You also help out other podcasts on the productions side – what projects have you been a part of / Currently help out on?

I’m pretty consistently helping Christ Lester with Metamor and I occasionally help PG Holyfield with his projects.  His stuff is on hold until Avedon Hill goes into print.  I’ve also helped Jeff Hite with his Great Hites anthology podcast.  For him I did some narration and co-hosting.  That’s one thing I love about this community.  People are more than willing to help, all you have to do is ask.

**Okay since some of the questions have more than one part technically this is more than 8 questions but meh…..

Bonus Questions – You don’t have to answer these but you can if you want.

b1) What is the air speed velocity of an unladen swallow?

Faster than the air speed of a laden swallow I would imagine.

b2) 42 is the answer but what is the question?

What was my number on the company softball league? (Yes I’m that much of a geek.)

b3) If at first you don’t succeed _____________ (fill in the Blank)

don’t put off leading leading that horse to water until he puts his nose to the grindstone.

General Pimpage

Today I want to talk about me…. but instead I want t o pimp 4 podcasts that I recently started listening to.    If I have time I might kick up a review for tomorrow but i realized that I haven’t just done ACTUAL random pimpage for entertainment in a while, it’s mostly been 8 Questions, Causes, and a couple of half ass reviews – yes I admit they’re half ass but I’m trying and I’m trying to get better… Siskel and Ebert I ain’t.

All four of the podcasts that follow are podcasts that I had to throw out my give it 4 episodes to decide its fate, each of them had me hooked at the first episode.  I’m riding these out hell or high water so far they rock, lets see if they can keep up the awesome factor they came out of the gate with.  Reviews of each will come out in due time, Empress Sword and Cybrosis are still in their run, Leviathan Chronicles  I believe is between seasons, and Dreamer’s Thread is finished.  So You’ll likely see the reviews for Leviathan Chronicles and Dreamers Thread pop up her in a couple weeks and the others closer to or after their completion run.  BUT all four casts are such a fun and engrossing listen that I have to pimp them now and try to bring these to light in case anyone glossed over them.  They’re all available over at Itunes, and I believe you can catch them at Podiobooks.com as well

I want to bring attention to PC Harring’s Cybrosis Novel.   It’s in a genre I really don’t usually read into but this Cyberpunk novel is kicking some serious ass so far.  I was only able to listen to a couple episodes before the fated great HD failure of 2010 but I liked what I heard and now that things are almost caught back up and my Itunes library is almost back to it’s former self and it’s now back on the Ipod you can follow @PCHaring on twitter and check the novel out at http://www.cybrosisnovel.com there will be a review after I catch up.

Another Notable and kick ass Podcast thus far is The Empress Sword from Paulettte Jaxton.  It’s a traditional fantasy story that takes a very untraditional twist.  It’s the kind of fantasy story I wanted when I was younger and can still enjoy now.  You can follow @PauletteJaxton on twitter and check the novel out at it’s home at http://empresssword.com/

We can’t forget Starla Huchton and The Dreamers Thread.  Here we have another victim of the great HD failure of 2010 but it’s back on the Ipod and I suspect should be finished shortly.  And expect a review of it shortly thereafter.  Fun story really enjoyed what I’ve been able to listen to so far.  You can catch her on Twitter as @riznphnx and catch the novel at http://www.thedreamersthreadnovel.com/

And lastly we can’t forget the leviathan in the room, sorry had to do it – The Leviathan Chronicles.  Here’s one I’ve been hearing kickass promos on for a while now, and just been too lazy to get over and check it out.  Again I’m kicking myself for my laziness, but I’m also kinda happy about my procrastination at the same time as that means I get to listen to Season 1 as damn near straight  through with as little downtime between eps as possible.  Kick ass production and cast, very quick to grab your attention and refuse to let go.  Be looking for the review for this bad boy in the VERY near future .  You can follow the Novel on Twitter at @LeviathanChrons and the site for the novel can be found at http://www.leviathanchronicles.com If you’re at work or someplace that you don’t want to cause a distraction turn the volume down or use headphones the site has an intro with music – kicak ass site so far too.

Today was just some general pimpage because I’ve got a few things on my plate, my novel that I’m working on, trying to beat the other stories in my head back into the cages so I can work on this, a few other projects in the works and the slow migration of what few files I managed to save from the great HD failure of 2010 to the new laptop… plus I’m lazy and have a cold that has been whupping my ass like my ma did when I was 3 and accidentally stole some penny candy so I’ve been trying to sleep it off a lot.

Tuesday’s causes has to be one of the hardest things I try to come up with.  I’m not really a “Cause Head” I’m not out there doing everything that I should to help my fellow man but I am trying to help out where and when I can.  I’m not the guy that hears about a Tornado in Kenya and then rushes in to save the day because I really don’t care about Kenya.  I believe in cleaning up your own yard before taking on the next one.  Sure some things trump others.  Katrina trumped giving the homeless person at the train station $5 because of the scope.  I balk at our government giving millions of dollars of aid to foreign emergencies but not taking a good hard look at the issues that are facing our citizens in need.  I do not donate to Children in need to support children in a third world nation when our own American children have so much they need assistance with.  Yeah some kid in Kenya needs shoes, so does the kid two blocks over whose dad just got laid off, and whose ma ran off with the female babysitter so they have 0 income.  Where is the charity to help that kid?  What I’m saying here is it’s all well and good to being globally minded and trying to help out in other countries, but there is so much help that can be done on a local level.  Homeless shelters, local Literacy  foundations, Red Cross or other Blood Donation centers, Hell Salvation Army and Goodwill Stores both donating goods for sale or purchasing some second hand items the list goes on and on.  I had a niece that passed on a couple years back that had mounted massive debt for my sister in the attempts to save her life through hospitals and various specialists.  She went in for what my sister thought was the flu, and was hospitalized, and it just started getting bigger from there.  I’ll go into the details sometime and Share Bear I miss you kiddo, but it’s time to get back to the post at hand.  Friends threw together a quick fundraiser for my sister, and it didn’t cover the hospital bills and what would be ultimately end up as funeral costs but it made a hell of a dent.  Look around find a local charity even if it’s a fundraiser to help buy new children’s books for the local library, or help with the school music program.  These little things can help, and you usually don’t have to break the bank with a donation.  For those of you out there that are mumbling but I can’t write that off on taxes, fuck write offs.  This is about helping your fellow man not about an extra $5 you don’t have to pay tax on.  There are other little things that can work as well.  Random acts of kindness, spotting somebody that extra couple bucks to pay for their burger when they realized they are a little short, giving somebody a jumpstart on the side of the road (ESPECIALLY IN EXTREME TEMPS), reading to kids at the library, shoveling the walk, or mowing the lawn for the elderly neighbor.  Causes is meant to remind us to help our fellow man I honestly don’t care how you help, that part is up to you, I just hope you do help.  This year I plan on helping an elderly neighbor couple try and replace parts of their fence – granted part of it is to make sure that their dogs don’t come into my yard and kill mine but I never said motives have to be completely altruistic either.  I don’t care why you get out there and find something in your community to help out just do it.  Yeah score the hottie’s number while you’re doing meals on wheels.  Just get out there and help.

No Links today because today is about finding something local to you.

Hit me up at rasplundjr@gmail.com with the Subject Tuesday Cause if you have a cause you want / need me to pimp.  There are plenty of people out there that need a hand, not just a hand out.  See who you can help today.

Thanks for your time today.

God Bless – If God isn’t your thing then well it’s still mine but Positive thoughts your way still.
